I might sound like a culprit, a villain if I asked you to stop drinking sodas. By that I mean Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, 7up, Marinda, Fanta etc. Let’s face it, We all love these drinks. You will find these drinks on almost every occasion, whether it be a party, a conference, or you are just having lunch/ dinner at home. Cold drinks/sodas are always served at every occasion, and if you don’t serve it, people might just get offended. It has become a norm in our society. But where is it leading us?
Let’s just list the reasons why it should be avoided. Starting from obesity, which means it deposits fats in the wrong places of your body including your belly. And those who have a belly “tyre” would agree with me when I tell you that it’s not easy losing fat around your belly.
Moreover, A single can of soda contains the equivalent of 10 tbsp of sugar. This amount of sugar, especially in liquid form, can cause insulin resistance which may just push you near another disease called “Diabetes”. I am sure you are familiar with the word since we all know someone who has it. Even the children who haven’t even stepped into their teenage life are suffering from it.
Soda contains phosphoric acid, which interferes with the body’s ability to absorb calcium and can lead to osteoporosis, cavities and bone softening. In my personal experience, when I did a survey on people who had sodas in their diet, especially women, about 90 percent of them had low values of calcium and most of them suffered knee pain. It was surprising to see that those women in their early 20s.
A single sip of your soda is enough to cause you harm, each organ of your body starts to work extra hard to eliminate the drop of it and you are just pushing down more through your oesophagus. How convenient. And the worst part is that it does not have a single nutritional value. I can’t mention all the other harms it can do to your body because the list never ends.
I know some people find it difficult to quit since it’s so tempting, but you need to realise that your life is in your hands. And your body deserves better. Would you throw poison down your throat just for the sake of pleasure? Don’t you have any responsibility towards your body?
Don’t poison yourself and your family, especially children, they are in their growing age and already they are suffering from diabetes, hypertension, obesity and stunted growth.
Some people do ask me if I drink sodas, and I tell them, 6 years ago, yes I did. But not after that. I changed my lifestyle. I took control. Even if I am offered somewhere, I prefer water. And at this stage, I don’t even like sodas anymore. And I don’t feel tempted at all. If I can do it so can you.
Life is full of options, good and bad. It is you who needs to decide which road to take.
Take care of yourself and those around you!
