Summer is just around the corner, although it has already arrived in many parts of the country. Pakistan is one of those countries, which is blessed with beautiful sunshine and summer season. While the West and Europeans yearn to bask in the sun, we, on the contrary, are averse to the scorching summer heat. This is mainly because the intensity of heat in Pakistan is verily agonizing and to some degree harmful as well.
So what can one do to protect their skin from the excruciating summer heat? There are two options:
- We can hide in the house all day long and prevent the sunlight from affecting us.
- We can take precautionary measures to diminish the aftermath of facing the sunlight.
Option A sounds appealing, but let’s face it, we can’t hide in our homes all day long. Therefore, let’s aim for option B and establish what we can do to protect our skin.
Keeping our bodies hydrated is crucial for healthy skin. 10-15 glasses of water regularly is imperative for a healthy and glowing skin. This tip is particularly consequential for people with oily skin. Keep a bottle full of water with you at all times. Even if you are making a small trip to the grocery store, make sure you keep a bottle of water with you in the car or in your bag.
If you are willing to go the extra mile; instead of water, you can always fill that water bottle with lemonade. Lemonade is extremely good for your health and exceptionally refreshing as well.
Sunblocks and sunscreens are also imperative. They not only protect our skin but keep it moisturized as well. Always wear sunscreen. Even if it’s cloudy outside, do not forget to apply it. And if possible, re-apply the sunscreen after every 2-3 hours.
I recommend using Neutrogena’s Fine Fairness moisturizer, with SPF 50. It is also suitable for oily skin type as well.
Hats although are not much used anymore, but for that skin, one should be willing to go the extra mile. Besides, hats are more of a Royal accessory. Royal up and get yourself a pretty sun hat, or let the inner cowboy come alive and get yourself a cowboy hat. Just make sure it gets the job done, i.e., protect your skin from the sunlight.
Rihanna has literally changed the way I use my umbrella, for eternity. If you are not fond of hats, perhaps you could always aim for a pretty umbrella. They are not only girlish but provide the best protection from the sun as well as the rain (duh!).
Last year, in June, I met a lady who was sweating like anything. Not because it was horrendously hot, but also because her choice of clothing was not right. She was wearing a woolen suit (because it was expensive and ostensibly she had to flaunt it) at noon. Her makeup had started to droop, her face looked fatigued, and she could not help herself but complain about how hot it was, despite us being indoors.
Therefore, one should be meticulous while picking out the outfit they want to wear in any season. Opt for loose Lawn or cotton wear in light colors.
You can also keep a spray bottle with you at all times. Whenever you feel the temperature is rising, just spray some water on your face, or you can make your own spray-mist to hydrate and moisturize your skin.
